Parents Open Sunday School : Sunday 25th Feb 2007

On Sunday 25th Feb 2007 we asked our children to invite their friends and family members to join us for a celebration of Sunday School and to help us eat over 300 freshly made pancakes. Thank you for everyone who joined us and who helped in the organisation. It was a special morning of song, food and fellowship.

Some of our Sunday School Volunteers

Where do we meet?
We meet on a Sunday morning in St Patricks church halls located in Brooke Street, Coleraine, Co Londonderry. BT52 1PY.

What time do we start?

We start at 9.45am and finish at 10.45am. Our Sunday school year begins in September but new children are welcome to come along at any time of the year. There is no Sunday School on the 3rd Sunday of each month – we have an all-age service in the Church instead. This is at 11.00am and everyone is encouraged to come along and bring their family. See the timetable below and announcements above for details of holidays, etc.

How does my child get involved?

Registration for the year is in September but new children are always welcome to come along. You can contact the Sunday School co-ordinator using the contact information below or simply turn up on a Sunday morning.

When does registration take place?

It is very important that parents come along with their children on their first attendance at Sunday School each year to formally register their child. We are required to do this under Child Protection legislation. Additionally important information is given to parents/guardians on the running of the Sunday School and its activities during  the year.

How are children split into classes?

Primary One children and preschoolers past their fourth birthday start in the Scramblers group. They meet upstairs in the Coffee Bar and this provides them with their own secure environment. Primary 2 to Primary 7 meet in the main hall. Secondary School aged children can attend the Pathfinders group in the Minor Hall.

What do we do?

We start each Sunday morning with a together time of worship – lots of singing, chat and prayer. Then we split up into small classes for stories and craft. Some weeks we have an open Sunday when we all stay in a big group and on these mornings parents are very welcome to stay with us. Last year we tried a few different things in these open Sundays – in January we had a games morning and in February we had a Pancake Breakfast.

What are our aims?

Sunday School has three main aims:

Evangelism – telling the children about Jesus as Saviour.

Teaching – how God’s word is relevant to our lives. Currently we are using Scripture Union materials for the main Sunday School and Go Teach for the Scramblers group. We also have teaching on the Lord's Prayer (P4), the Ten Commandments (P5 and P6) and the Creed (P7) alongside this.

Building a church family – helping the children get to know each other, their teachers and the young people who help us and helping them get involved in church life.

Interested in helping?
